Jess Davis is a single mom, also a data and statistic wizard. She tried so hard to get back into dating. She then heard the latest DNA-based matchmaking business called GeneticAlly that helps people to find soulmates. It's all based on numbers and databases. She decided to give it a try. Her result was ninety-eight percent compatibility with someone, the founder of the business, Dr. River Penda. A stuck-up man, she believes they are not soulmates. But the company came up with the proposition by getting to know each other and they will pay Jess, she couldn't say no since her salary isn't meeting the needs of her and Juno even though she dislikes River. Both of them got dragged from one event to the other since they are called "Diamond" pairing that helps the company for the stock prices. She then found out there is what is really going on with the soulmate concept than she realizes.
She was raised by her grandparents, helping to raise her seven-year-old daughter Juno. She is also finding it hard to let anyone in her life since her ex never wanted to be the father and her mother always get busy with going to parties and left Jess when she was six. She works hard and feels alone. And when she got a match with someone, she didn't expect the person who would be stubborn and stuck-up. And it's the money she wanted for her daughter. Even if she has to be in a fake relationship with River, later on, it didn't make her feel alone and she doesn't want to lose it.
One of my favorite quotes is, "I haven't been home in years, but I feel that way with you." This is what River felt with Jess, the company may show they are matching based on the database but it's more than that.
So to conclude Jess and River were matched and had to fake date each other for the company's stock prices.
