This is the third book Dumplin, in the first book we have a plus size girl getting into a beauty pageant, in the second two girls from enemies to best friend and now in the third, we have a fat boy who is a queer being voted for prom queen. He has the nickname Pumpkin because he has resembles his orange hair and orange freckles.
Waylon Russell had plans, going to college with his twin sister Clementine, leaving Clover City behind so that he can be full Waylon without having the fear of being mocked with his identity however that has changed after being dumped by his boyfriend and Clementine making her future that doesn't involve him. The next thing he did was to prove to them he doesn't need them anymore and so he dressed up to audition for his favourite TV show Fiercest of Them All and the video was leaked to the internet. The whole school knows and this led to Waylon being nominated prom queen as a joke, even Clementine's girlfriend Hannah was nominated as prom king as a joke too. Going to prom wasn't his plan but he was motivated by Hannah and showed the school how prom can be more than campaign posters and plastic crowns especially since he was forced to partner in the campaign with a prom king nominee Tucker Watson.
What I love about this novel is how Waylon made prom different and not cliche, he gave a message that anybody can be king or queen, and how he included drag in prom.
So to conclude Walyong is also known as Pumpkin, he created an audition video for his show TV and the whole school, as a joke he was nominated for prom queen with his sister's girlfriend being nominated prom king as a joke too. And now he is going to add drag in prom.
