Hello everyone and welcome to my blog.
August moved to New York for college, moved to an apartment with three people who are known for being weird and to earn money she got a job at a diner. Her life was challenging. It got worse when coffee was spilt on her in a train station and then she met a beautiful and mysterious girl Jane with black hair and wearing a leather jacket. August's day just got better, and seeing Jane in the subway has become part of her routine however she has realized that there is was something about Jane. There was a reason for her style of clothes and taste in the music, turns out, she has been stuck in the subway since the 1970s, August used her detective skills to figure it out. She started to research how Jane was displaced in time from the 1970s but soon her feelings grow and see Jane as more than a research.
August used to think logically and not emotionally, she has the skills of researching and goes through cases since she was young, she got it from her mom. She had a plan, moving to New York, attend college classes and earn money for her apartment, meeting a girl was unexpected but she and Jane fell in love. At first, she wanted to help Jane to remember the person she used to be but wasn't just the research anymore, it was more than that.
Jane has been in New York since the 1970s so she's been through everything, she was part of the gay activism, she used to be part of every protest against the homophobic and she loved helping people. After meeting August, she started to have her memories, being with her family, how she used to travel around and stayed in an apartment with many roommates and she loved listening to music. She realized her old life and had a chance of going back with August's help she was ready to say goodbye.
One of my favourite quotes is, "When you spend your whole life alone, it's incredibly to move somewhere big enough to get lost in. Where being alone looks like a choice." When August moved to New York, her roommates wanted to know the reason for moving to a big city, she said she wanted to try new things. After moving from one city to the other she wanted to try something bigger.
What I love about this book is how it talks about life in New York during the 1970s and in the present, each character talked about how they came out, how they are trying to start fresh in the city. And the best part is August and Jane falling in love, even though they are from different eras they have a way of connecting with each other.
So to conclude, August met a girl Jane in a train station and found out how she has been stuck in the same place for more than forty years, August decided to research to search the truth.
