On the same day two people, Mateo and Rufus receive calls from Death-Cast, they were informed that they will face death. Both of them are complete strangers to each other and they wanted to make a new friend. By using a new app called Last Friend, Mateo and Rufus met and had an adventurous day, to make their last day unforgettable.
Getting calls from Death-Cast and being told that they are going to die are known as Deckers, they will have at least 24 hours to live and so they can do whatever they want. They can go to karaoke or restaurant, anywhere they want or they can have a Last Friend to spend their last moments not being alone. And no matter where they go people will recognize them as Deckers.
Death-Cast called Mateo Torrez because he was going to die, he wants to say goodbye to his dad who is in hospital, and have to find a way to tell his best friend Lidia that he is going to die. The one person who riled on to be with her while taking care of her daughter.
Death-Cast called Rufus Emeterio because he was going to die while he was beating up his ex-girlfriend's new boyfriend. He was been avoiding the call, he wasn't ready to accept that he has a limited day to live but later on, he accepted and was to make the day memorable as he could.
One of my favourite quotes is, "Stories can make someone immortal as long as someone else is willing to listen." Mateo's dad once told him and he wants to keep him alive the way he did for his mother. Gone but never forgotten.
Plus the part when Mateo and Rufus went to karaoke and sang American Pie by Don McLean, I grew up listening to the song and seeing them singing made me so happy. And the ending was a way I knew it would but it wasn't something I wanted to happen.
So to conclude on September 5 two people are going to die. Mateo and Rufus were strangers to each other and yet knowing they won't live any longer have brought them close.
