Karina Ahmed has 28 days to have peace and quiet while her parents go to Bangladesh for a visit. She has been keeping her head down, getting through high school without any problem and keeping her parents happy even if it means giving up dreams to be a doctor instead of studying English lit, they think being a doctor is more stable and not English lit. She wants things to be simple until she had to tutor Ace Clyde in English, he has been bringing her coffee, takes to her to a bakery shop and buys her books. All of this is for Karina to pretend to be his girlfriend, and she agreed and started counting down the days until her parents come back from their trip.
Karina not only have the problem of following her parent's dreams instead of her own, but she also has an anxiety problem, almost every day she calms herself by counting from ten. She is very close to her grandma and has a brother Samir who almost can get away from anything, her parents won't say anything. Until she meets Ace Clyde, who noticed the anxiety problem she was having other than her friends and always found a way to help her. Karina was scared of being in a relationship because of her strict parents but realized that she needed to fight for the things she cared about, being with Ace and choosing to be an English teacher instead of a doctor.
One of my favourite quotes is, "My religion has never been a problem. It's the ideal of the generations before me." Karine never had a problem of being Muslim, but it is her parents or her uncles and aunties, they are forcing Karina and her cousins to choose the path they are forced and if they go against them then they will be kicked out of the house, none of the relatives will talk about them ever again.
So to conclude a teenage girl has days until her parents come back from their trip, she tutors a handsome guy, gets in a fake relationship and have to find a way to tell her parents she doesn't want to be a doctor.
