Concrete Rose by Angie Thomas

Hello everyone and welcome to my blog. Last year one of the books I enjoyed the most was The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas, it was amazing and now I got to read a story before Starr was born. And so let's begin with the summary.

A seventeen-year-old Maverick Carter had to take care of his family. Being a son of a former gang member, he deals with King Lords. He wanted to make money to help his mom who is having two jobs while his dad is in prison. He was happy having a girlfriend and a cousin looking after him. Life was good until he became a father of a baby name Seven. Taking care of his baby has been added to the list along with finishing his education. He wanted to walk away from drug dealing business but it leads to someone he loved getting murdered, he has to find out how to deal with this.

His life wasn't fabulous, and he knows that but he wanted to make a better life for Seven and so he was a job at gardening, tried to finish school and wanted to end the drug dealing business. That's what his mom, his cousin and his loved ones wanted for him. However, no matter what happens trouble happens in his town. And he didn't want to name his son without meaning. It shouldn't be plain. The reason Maverick named his baby Seven is beautiful, the name means perfection. He knows his son is perfect

One of my favourite quotes is, "Unlike me, the roses deserve a second chance." I love it because Maverick knows he has so much on his plate, he knows that selling drugs and being in a gang is messing up his life and being a father gave him a second chance. At this moment he didn't believe in second chances.

So to conclude, Maverick a teenager who was in a gang, and he has a baby to take care. He needs to know how to be a man for his baby and his mom.
