I know we shouldn't judge a book by its cover but the moment I saw this book cover I immediately added to my TBR, also known as to be read. The book cover is beautiful and really vibrant. Let's begin.
Here is the summary, Emoni Santiago is a teen mom who is in senior year and has to make a tough decision, to decide what must be done. She has so much going on with her and the only place where Emoni doesn't let her responsibilities go is in the kitchen. This is where she adds a little magic to the food she cooks. She chose culinary arts class, she was expected to follow rules of cooking but Emoni likes to follow her guts. The school has planned a trip to Spain but Emoni doesn't have enough money and so she comes up with ideas to raise the money.
The first aspect of the story is Emoni is a mom, she got pregnant at a young age. And the moment Emma was born, Emoni wanted to do whatever it takes to earn money so that her daughter can have a bright future. Emoni wanted her daughter to go to college, get a nice job. She wanted Emma to follow her own dreams. And Emoni didn't want to go to college, she wanted to get a job after finishing school but her guidance counselor wanted to make sure that Emoni will have options in case she couldn't find her job.
Here is the second aspect, Emoni loves cooking and she always makes her food magical with spices. She gets recipes from her aunt and likes to make it a bit different then sends a new version of the recipe to her aunt. Plus when she cooks, she listens to music, in her recipes, Emoni adds the kind of music to listen while cooking. And she has a dream of own her own kitchen.
One of my favorite quotes is, "I've had a lot of things to feel ashamed about and I've learned most of them are other people's problems, not mine." This explains when Emoni got pregnant, everyone kept staring at her, and the guys didn't her any respect but Emoni doesn't let that bother her because Emma and her cooking are what matters the most to Emoni.
Let's come to the conclusion, this is about Emoni with her daughter Emma. She loves to cook and wants to raise money to go to Spain.
