Hello everyone and welcome to my blog. I decided to read a book based on the not only young adult novel, it is also a retelling story. I wanted to read something new and different and this book is just awesome. There are adventures, action, romance, all the things I love in a book. Let's begin.
Here is the summary, it's been 200 years since Cinderella found her prince and her happy ending however the fairy tale has come to the end. There is a tradition of teen girls requiring to make an appearance at the Annual Ball. This is where the men of the kingdom's select wives based on a girl's looks and if a suitable match is not found, there will be no future for the girls. A sixteen-year-old girl named Sophia would rather marry a girl Erin, they were childhood friends and loved each other. She wanted to have a happy ending, she made a plan of running away with Erin. At the ball, the plan didn't go well and Sophia was forced to hide in the grave of Cinderella. Then she meets someone Constance, who happens to be the last descendant of Cinderella and her stepsister. Both of them have decided to take down the king once and for all. During the journey, they learn the truth the story of Cinderella, and they also meet a witch who wanted to help them.
The main aspect of the story is that the entire town Lillie follows the tradition, a girl finding so that her family can be safe. She has to be beautiful otherwise she will end up in the streets. And Sophia happens to be the girl who prefers woman, she told her parents and they were shocked, they still wanted their daughter to marry a prince. For her mom, happiness is just a bonus. What's more important to safety even if the man doesn't treat her well, nearly all the men in the town treats the won't give respects to their wives, they do horrible things. Even the king himself is not a good person. All of this is the reason why Sophia wanted to run away but Erin didn't want to leave her family and doesn't want to be disowned. All of the girls were raised like that. And during the ball, the king didn't approve Sophia's best friend Liv because apparently, she didn't the right dress or the right look. She was forced to be taken away and later Sophia saw her friend being killed. That part broke up heart, I had to read it over and over to see if it was true. I love the way Sophia stands up to the man, she is strong and a badass.
The other aspect is when Sophia and Constance began to fall in love, they make each other happy. Constance trained Sophia on using knives, how to fight. Sophia was sad about Erin and wanted to see if she was okay sadly Erin was not only married to a horrible man, she thinks that there is no hope, there is nothing Sophia can do and Erin never wanted to see her again.
The last aspect of the story is that everyone in the town reads the Cinderella story, all the children read in order to learn the tradition but thanks to Constance the story is not true. It wasn't a fairy tale, there is no happy ending. It was dark and twisted. She and Sophia was determined to find the truth so that they can take down the king. Later on, they find out the real reason why Cinderalla died, what really happened to the stepsisters, and the real truth of the Prince Charming. It blew my mind.
"For Liv," I say, "For Lille, For Cinderella." This quote is my favorite because this is where Sophia has fought not just for the people she loved, its also for Cinderella. And my second favorite quote is "Be a light in the dark." It shows that Sophia knows that the fight isn't over, at the end of the story Sophia is willing to face whatever danger comes next.
Let's summarize it up, a girl named Sophia prefers to marry a princess, not a prince, and wants to kill the king because he is not the man they all think and she wants to find the truth.

I give this book a 4.9/5. I love this book so much, I want to continue reading novels based on the retelling genre. It's a new version of an old story. I hope everyone is having a good day and I will see you soon.
