I Was Told It Would Get Easier by Abbi Waxman

One of the books I started to read during the lockdown was The Bookish Life Of Nina Hill. I loved the book because it was not only fun to read but also it was relatable.

Finding out the protagonist is somewhat similar to me was the best thing that ever happened. And when this book came out I was so excited to read. And I love the book cover.

Let's start with the summary. This is about a mother and daughter going on a college tour. For the daughter Emily, it is all about freedom and an exciting future. She wasn't clear if she wanted to go to college.

And as for the mother Jessica, she wanted to spend time with her daughter like they used to. She missed the time when she used to be so close to Emily but as her daughter grows up, they grow apart. While they visit different colleges, they meet friends and family.

Here is the first aspect of this book. The tour is all about a group of parents with their children, they all sit together to talk about colleges such as their passion, what kind of future they want, and their fears. You get to see and learn of how getting into a college means a lot to their parents, the things that are willing to do so that their child can have a future. Every parent wants their child to get into college and every youngster wants to go to college to have fun.

But Emily is the only person in the entire who talks about why they all have to rush to go to college and to find out a career. She hasn't even figured out what subjects she wants.

And the second aspect of this book is that Jessica wanted to quit her job, she likes being a lawyer but its the company she didn't like. Her boss told her that quitting would be a bad idea because her job is the only way of helping Emily to get into college. She hasn't told her daughter yet. So you can learn of how Jessica started her career, how she simply chose to become a lawyer instead of doing what she really wanted to do.

One of my favorite quotes is, "“Emily, you are
awesome, and I look forward to ordering a dining table, or whatever it is you end up making.” This is when Emily has found out what she wanted to do. Emily was scared if her mom would be disappointed for the future plan but Jessica told her daughter that Emily can do whatever she wants as long she's happy.

So to just to summarize, a mother and daughter go on a college tour to bond. Here are the similar books to read -

I give this a 4.5 rating. I hope everyone is having a good day and I will see you soon.
