I wanted to read this book because the front cover looks beautiful, with the colors and title of the book along with a flying book, seeing this book immediately got me interested to read the book. this story started of with a character name Leigh Chen Sanders who was certain that her mother killed herself. This character is half Asian and half white, living in America with her dad and her best friend/crush. After losing her mom, she started to see a bird in the middle of night, Leigh knew it was her mom trying to tell her daughter something. She and her dad travel to Taiwan, Leigh visits her grandparents which is her first time.
She learned many things about her mom, her childhood memories and her favorite places. Leigh even got to know that the reason why her mom and her grandparents haven't spoken and seen each other in years is because of her mom marrying non-Asian. And after they got married she has been depressed, was not well mentally. All those secrets were kept from Leigh. Not only her mom in the form of bird has been visiting her, she has been seeing a friend of the family who liked to spend time with her grandparents, going to favorite places of her mom but Leigh hated being treated like a tourist. In the end, it was the ghost of her mom and told Leigh she will return home. In the end, she had a severe fever which leads to seeing ghosts. Her dad never wanted his daughter to be an artist but he learned that it will make Leigh happy even her best friend/crush wanted to support her no matter what. At the end of the story, Leigh painted a bird, to say goodbye to the one who loved. This book is beautiful, everyone should read it.
